Watch this. The Bertucci DX3 FIELD watch

I have worn the Bertucci DX3 FIELD watch almost every day for the past three years, and I know that I will continue to wear it for years to come.

Prologue – I’m a watch person. I have distinct memories of every watch I’ve ever owned, all of which were and are analog (classic, tick-tock style). Watches have always had the primary function of telling time, which was especially important while I was growing up. I was encouraged to ride my bike and play around my neighborhood from sunrise to sunset, and I knew that our freedom could be revoked if we pushed the limits of not being home on time. Today, analog watches allow for more than just a way to tell time – it’s my way of being independent from technology. I truly avoid my cell phone as much as possible, and wearing a watch allows me to keep my phone tucked away whenever I need to know what time it is.

Here enters the Bertucci DX3 FIELD watch, model number 11028 with a white dial and super luminous case. You heard that right, people, SUPER LUMINOUS. That means it GLOWS IN THE DARK, and is honestly the main reason I bought this watch. I urgently needed a new durable, albeit stylish, watch before I was heading on a backpacking trip through Zion and Grand Canyon National Parks in 2015. I popped into the REI Flagship in Seattle and spotted this one, and because the slightly translucent green color instantly invoked memories of classic glow-in-the-dark stars that children put on their ceilings, I knew it was the watch for me.

Adults are too often cheated of cool gear. Check out the kids’ section of any store and you’ll see the most amazing and inspiring options for clothing and accessories. It’s like, once we become “adults,” we’re stuck with drab colors and patterns. Bertucci hits it out of the park with this watch. Beyond being absolutely amazing at telling time in the dark (this feature is more useful than you might think), it is also an extremely well-designed time piece.

I’ve worn the DX3 FIELD on every backpacking and camping trip, kayaking trip, sailing trip, MTB ride, ski touring trip, and all general travel (air/car/walk). I also wear it on a daily basis to work and functions, because again, the look is impeccably classic for an adventure-ready watch. To be clear, it is a larger watch that is likely intended for men, but who cares! It’s awesome! Extra perks: the band is replaceable if it gets too grungy (mine did after two years), I’ve only had to replace the battery once, and it’s waterproof.

I have gotten more use out of this watch than anything else I own. The Bertucci DX3 FIELD is flawless and I recommend it highly.
