Helly Hansen’s Ullr Collection – Aurora Shell Jacket and Pant
Fit and function are always the name of the game in snow gear, but I’ll be the first to admit that looks matter, too. I’ve been skiing since I could walk, and I’ve worn my fair share of the latest and greatest apparel with ever changing fabric and fit technology. Hands down, Helly Hansen’s Ullr Collection is the best looking and functioning ski wear I’ve ever worn, and the fit is fire.
The Ullr Collection is built around a mid-weight Helly Tech® Professional 3L fabric with unparalleled breathability to keep you dry, warm and comfortable on the inside. The men’s and women’s jackets have a longer length and relaxed, tailored fit with pockets and ventilation zippers designed to work flawlessly with your backpack. The higher collar expands so you can really tuck your face in and protect against face shots and wind whipping on the chairlift. Details such as Hi vis hits on the helmet-accommodating hood brim are legitimately the only way my friends and family can find me on gnarly storm days. A major winner on these jackets are the large adjustable wrist cuffs that allow for easy use with gloves. Large adjustable wrist cuffs may not sound like a big deal, but experiencing the convenience is believing. Lastly, the jackets have premium freeride specific features throughout including jacket-pant compatible powder skirt, built-in goggle shammy, and Recco® advanced rescue system. If you’re hitting epic mountain days and wearing a jacket without Recco, you’re doing it wrong.
Speaking on behalf of the women’s Aurora Shell Pants, if you’re a lady that has strong skier legs and booty, these are the pants for you. I could not preach more highly of the fit on these pants. The fit is roomy but flattering, allows for layering with even the thickest base layers, and doesn’t make scratchy fabric moving noises while you’re schlepping uphill or shredding downhill. Just like the jacket, the premium freeride features are something you’ll never forgo once your in with the Ullr Collection.
I’ve gone from deep pow days in the Sierra Nevada, to rainy storm chasing in the PNW, plus all of the glorious blue-bird days in between, and my Ullr kit has never let me down.
